International Chef's Day - 2020

Today's blog is going to be a little bit special as it is international Chef's Day, and I have brought you some of the world's finest chefs and their star recipes right here in this blog. 

International Chef's Day is celebrated every year on 20th of October. It is celebrated to pass down the knowledge and skills about different recipes from one generation to another. 

On this particular day, there are many events held globally to encourage chefs to participate as it boosts their morale and enthusiasm towards their work culture. 

Events like culinary competition is the main hightlight of chef's day, other miscellaneous events like educational programs are held, to help students to encourage themselves to participate in cooking competition and enroll if interested also there are many networking opportunities in this event as there are chefs and management teams who participate from all around the world and look up for tie ups and business expansion in other countries or hire chefs to their existing management. Events like this promotes the career of chef's on many accounts. 

One of the most important facet of International Chefs Day is to accentuate the importance of cooking and eating healthy foods among every age group of people.

How It Started?

London born, Bill Gallagher, was an esteemed chef and businessman who took up a job of Executive sous chef in South Africa. Throughout his chef career he achieved many positions and bought a revolutionary movement in the world of food industry in South Africa.

In the year 2004, as Bill was the president of World Association Of Chefs Societies he created the worldwide event of International Chef's Day to honour and celebrate the nobility of culinary profession around the world. 

As of now, Worldchefs has partnered with Nestlè Professional to teach kids around the globe about the importance of healthy eating by hosting fun-filled workshops worldwide.

Know The Chefs Role In The Kitchen: 

A chef's job is not that easy, he or she is the one who has to supervise the kitchen on daily basis, look after his head cooks and to look if the food is cooked and served on time. A chef's responsibility is not only to better the existing recipes but to create more innovative recipes with all the knowledge he or she holds about cooking.

Let's us now see, how different kinds of chefs work in an organised kitchen:

1. Executive Chefs: They do very little cooking and mostly overlooks and manages not only one but number of restaurants in a day.

2. Head Chef: It's job is to manage the kitchen staff and have control over the daily operations that happens in the kitchen.

3. Sous Chef: Second in command to head chef.

4. Chef de Partie: It's job is to look after a specific part in the kitchen.

5. Commis Chef: Every new intern or junior member of the kitchen staff works under chef de partie.

6. Kitchen Porter: Someone who has basic skills of peeling, chopping and cutting of vegetables in the kitchen.

7. Dishwasher: To wash up all utensils, cutleries and dishes.

No matter what the role a chef plays in the kitchen their main motive is to make new innovative dishes they treat their profession as an art and science to create something new and exciting dishes by combining numerous elements to have the best taste and look to their creative recipe.

Learn About Some Of The Most Famous Chefs:

1. Sanjeev Kapoor

There is no need for the introduction for the famous Sanjeev Kapoor as we all are pretty aware about the name and his work. Sanjeev Kapoor has been the face of kitchen tv for many years now, he is known for his creation of simple yet elegant food skills. He has written many cook books and has his own food channel named foodfood. 

2. Vikas Khanna

Vikas Khanna is awarded as Michelin star chef for his culinary skills. He own his own restaurant food chain in New York known as 'Junoon'. In 2011, he was named as the 'Sexiest Man Alive' by People Magazine. He is also known to have arranged a white House dinner for then President, Barack Obama. 

3. Gordon Ramsay

Gordon Ramsay is the most famous and popular face in the food industry. He is not only a Michelin star chef but also the creator of many innovative recipes by combining different cuisines of around the globe. He is known to be fond of Indian cuisine and love their spice culture and history.

4. Padma Lakshmi

Indian born Padma Lakshmi is the most famous known celebrity chef of Hollywood. She is known for her intense knowledge about Indian spices, she has published her book on the same. She has hosted food shows like Top chef and Taste the nation.

5. Alain Ducasse

Australian born, is the most loved and popular chef around the world. He is known for his french cuisine and currently holds 17 Michelin star by any chef in the world also he is the only chef whose food was sent into space. 

How To Celebrate Chefs Day At Home? 

Not a professional chef?

Don't worry!

If you are not a professional chef or have any unique recipes, you can still be part of this and enjoy it with your friends and families. All you need to do is follow below points and voila! You are a chef for the day!!!!!

1. Choose any dish you like, think of some healthy recipes as the main motive of international Chef's Day is to promote healthy food, so cook this healthy recipe with you friends, family or children as it will make the process more of fun and enjoy the meal.

2. You can also teach your children or volunteer at school programs on how to cook healthy food.

3. Else what about a competition? Yup, host a small cooking competition at your home among your friends and family members.

4. You can also visit your favourite restaurant and thank the chef for cooking your favourite meal so good.

5. Otherwise the most convenient and easy option to celebrate this day is to turn ON your TV and watch cooking shows on any food channels.

Every year on 20th October, Worldchefs organizes a theme for the international Chef's Day, last year it was How Healthy food works.
