Hello guysss!!!
Welcome back to another travel blog.
In these fast paced "Mumbai" life, ever felt exhausted and tired and in need of fresh air?
Oh well! There you are desperately wanting to be anywhere near "fresh air"?
Ah! Don't worry I am not talking about any room freshners or artificial scents or anything like that!!!!
Have you guys noticed we are day-by-day getting surrounded by busy streets, dealing with traffic every FREAKING day. Every corner is getting developed into tall buildings, more congestion and noise pollution and less of lush greenery around.
Let me take you guys away from this hustled and bustled and rustled life not so far but within Mumbai to get some refreshment with your friends, families or loved ones?
That's upto you!
Breathe a fresh air in the arms of South Mumbai, there is this small green space nestled in the Hills of Malabar, surrounded by lush greenery and peaceful environment.
You can visit three places within the hills of Malabar.
How To Reach:
This exuberant green space is less than 2 kms from Charni Road railway station and Grant Road railway station on the western line of Mumbai local.
You can take a taxi or bus to reach the destination or a 30 min walk with your friends can be fun but not recommended in sunny days!
What To Explore??
Let's traverse these three places in detail.
1. Babulnath Temple
Babulnath Temple is perched atop a mini hillock in South Mumbai. The beauty of this temple is it's all white and is one of the ancient temples of Mumbai. Idol of lord Shiva is in the form of Babul tree so the name Babulnath.
You can take the staircase or elevator which costs around ₹1 to get to the temple.
Thousands of devotees come here on the auspicious day of Mahashivratri to offer prayers to the lord Shiva.
The temple opens around 5am in the morning and closes by 10pm night time.
The surrounding of the temple is serene and peaceful and is usually less crowded but occasionally overcrowded with devotees.
2. Hanging garden
Just above Babulnath Temple is Malabar Hills where Hanging Garden is located. Hanging Garden also goes by the name Pherozeshah Mehta Garden.
There is a steep staircase next to the entrance of Babulnath Temple which will ascend you towards the top of Malabar Hills. Once you climb up the staircase, walk towards your left side and you can now see the entrance to hanging garden otherwise you can take the simple route while directly visiting to this park.
There is a walkway inside the park that takes you around the garden where you will find hedges that are carved into the shapes of different animals.
There are many trees planted around so the wind flows by sometimes, you can also see plants of different species in the garden with bright colour flowers.
There are park benches around to sit and relax.
As there is no shade available make sure you are well covered with cap/hat as it is very hot/sunny in the afternoon and might kill your mood.
Fun Fact: It is named Hanging Garden because this place has been built over a water reservoir. You can take a stroll around the lake.
Entry Fee: None
Park Time: 5 am to 9 pm (All-day, Everyday)
3. Kamala Nehru Park
Kamala Nehru park is slightly bigger in area than the Hanging Garden. It is located exactly opposite to Hanging Garden.
People usually come here with their families to have a picnic and enjoy the view. There is ample space for visitors to sit and relax in the park.
There is also a separate playground inside the park for children (Slides, swings, etc.) to play and have some quality fun time.
There is a walkway and park benches around for people to sit and relax and enjoy the tranquility.
There are tall trees in the park which makes the atmosphere kind of breezy or windy and also even if it is sunny you won't feel the heat because of the breeze running around the park and you are safe under the shades of tall trees.
There is also a botanical garden inside the park, worth a small visit. Bird watching is another thing that is enjoyed here by the people.
Park is photogenic and you will come across many enthusiastic photographers waiting for capturing best sunset shots.
The best part about Kamala Nehru park is the breathtaking view of the arabian sea, you can literally see the marine drive a.k.a the famous Queen's Necklace view from the park.
The surrounding is picturesque and is quite famous among photo enthusiasts so don't forget to capture the beautiful memories.
The visit to Kamala Nehru Park is incomplete without stopping by its famous 'Old Boot structure' inside it.
Fun fact: The famous shoe structure is actually inspired by the very infamous nursery rhyme "There was an Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe".
Entry Fee: None
Park Time: 5 am to 9 pm (All-day, Everyday).
Where To Eat?
There are many restaurants and local eateries around Malabar Hill area. Street foods like momo, vada paav, tea and coffee are available throughout the day.
P.S: Please don't keep your hopes high (It's not like Dubai Miracle Garden) regarding these two places as Hanging Garden and Kamala Nehru Park is small lavish getaway for "Mumbaikars" on weekends or maybe like anytime, anyday escapade.
These three beautiful places are located towards the end of Girgaon Chowpatty which are further ascended towards Malabar Hills.
Malabar Hill of South Mumbai is among the most visited places by locals and yes obviously the tourists because of these three places; also is one of the famous key attractions in Mumbai Darshan (Mumbai local tour bus).
