Know Your Thane - Upvan Lake

Hello guys!!

Welcome back to another travel series.

Thank you for your love for my Know Your Mumbai Travel series, I have now introduced two more concatenation series, Know your Navi Mumbai and Know your Thane blog series. I hope you all would like it as much as you guys loved my Mumbai series.

So starting up with today's first travel blog about Know You Thane, I will be taking you to the most famous, featured and visited lake among Thanekars and others, a place known for its peaceful and restful environment, it's none other than Upvan Lake.

                    Photo Location: Upvan Lake

Thane is known for its beautiful lakes and parks among these, Upvan Lake is one of the largest and popular one in city of lakes.

Best Time To Visit:

You can visit the lake anytime of the day you want.
Most usually, during morning time, you can see local residents jogging and running here, some practising yoga and some taking their dogs for a walk.

I would recommend evening time as the breeze is amazing when you walk and the atmosphere is quite serene and cool.

Sunset is a must watch here as the skyline is alluring.

Upvan lake is most loved by locals and youngsters during monsoon season as the weather is pleasant and relaxing.

P.S: Upvan Lake has no entry fee.

How To Reach?

Upvan Lake is approximately 6.3 kms from Thane station. It is located at the end of pokhran road no. 1 and 2 in Thane West.

Central Line:

For central line residents, you will have to travel to Thane station where minimum train ticket would cost you around ₹5 and maximum ₹15 depending upon the location. If you live in suburbs there are many TMC (Thane Municipal Corporation) buses available that will take you to the route of upvan lake.

Western Line:

For western line residents, you will have to travel to Dadar station first and then move to central line to get a train to Thane.

Harbour Line (Mains):

Navi Mumbaikars can take a trans harbour (Vashi/Nerul-Thane) route which will take you to Thane station directly or if travelling from harbour (mains) line either get down at Kurla or Sanpada station and further continue your train journey to Thane station.

Once you reach Thane station (Westside) there you will find many transport vehicles available to reach upvan lake. You can take a TMT bus (Bus Nos. 16) from station itself to Upvan lake which will cost around ₹13, shared Auto will cost you around ₹20 per person and direct Auto will cost around ₹60 - ₹80 (maximum) depending upon the traffic. If you want you can take an Ola or Uber there costing around ₹130 for a mini vehicle.

About Upvan Lake:

Upvan lake was constructed by J.K Singhania mainly to provide water supply to the nearby areas. There was a time when upvan lake would provide water supply to the entire Thane city but now is used primarily for recreation purpose only. It is known to be the biggest lakes present in Thane where it is surrounded by dense forest Yeoor Hills.

Around the vicinity of the upvan lake present is the lord Ganesha's temple. What takes your breath is the grand idol of lord shiva sitting in the middle of the lake, it is both mesmerizing and alluring to eyes.

You can even enjoy the boat ride, paddle boat is only boat ride available. Boat ride starts around 4 pm in the evening. There is also a musical fountain which is quite fun to watch at evening time around 7 pm. You won't feel the sun in the afternoon times as the lake is sorrounded with tall trees and there is lush greenery around of Yeoor Hills to keep you cool.

You can visit Upvan Lake with your friends, families, children and loved ones too.

Upvan lake is quoted as 'Lover's paradise' among the locals as you would see many young couples strolling around the lake pathway.

Every year Sanskruti Arts Festival is held here where all the artists and people around Thane and Mumbai come to celebrate the hard work that is put out by local artits.

On ocassion of Ganesh festival, people come here at large scale to immerse the idol of ganesha in the lake towards the end of ganeshotsav.

Many photograph enthusiasts can be seen here with their cameras taking photos of the surrounding, sometimes the beautiful sunset and youngsters busy in perfect selfies.

Where To Eat?

Though upvan lake is located in a secluded place with residential housing around there are not many food options here but yes you can find few restaurants inside the lake besides the ganesha temple.

You can enjoy some good Indian chinese food, Juice stall, ice cream parlour to savour some good chilled ice cream. There are both options available for food lovers like vegetarian and non-vegetarian with many Indian food items on the menu.

Other Places Around To Explore:

There are not much places to explore around as it a residential area. But you can visit Korum mall or Viviana mall to explore more food menus and if you love shopping you can enjoy it too. On the way to Upvan lake there is Cadbury company though visitors are not allowed you can whiff some fresh chocolate aroma.

It's time to add this beautiful, serene and clean place to your travel list. Hope you travel there soon.

See you in the next blog.
